Big Tyres For 99 Pajero

Hi guys

I've had a re-think about the tyres going on my Pajero. I'm now thinking instead of replacing the 235/75R15 with 31/10.5R15 that I would like to change the rims as well and go bigger but I'm unsure as to how big I can go before I start scrubbing out and causing problems. I was thinking along the lines of 265/75R16 or maybe bigger ?

Anyone got any ideas.

Yeah I know, your thinking why's he asking this question when he sells 4x4 equipment right. Well I don't sell tyres and haven't gone any bigger than 31/10.5R15 on a pajero before.

So let me know your thoughts.

The decision was made for me over the weekend. My wife had the Pajero at Leyburn and the tyres were waring very thin, she was on a rough gravel road and blew a tyre (second blow out in 5 days) The tyre choices in stock were very limited in Warwick so we decided to replace the same size for now and look at upgrading in the near future. Due to the limited choice of tyres we couldn't go for the Goodyear Wrangler Muddies so we went with the Cooper ST 235/75R15. They seem very comfortable, not noisy and very good on gravel road. I feel these will be a very good tyre.

Hey, I've had my fair share of Toyota's. 84 Diesel Landcruiser trayback, 62 series petrol/gas Landcruiser wagon and 86 turbo diesel Toyota 4 Runner. Yes, the cruisers are great machines and I actually did look to buy a cruiser this time round but came accross the Pajero, it was in great nick and thought why not. It's a bit smaller than the cruiser but goes like a rocket with the 3.5L V6 and they are bloody comfortable of road. She'll do me for a while.

Actually come to think of it I seem to remember you owning a BITSUSHITI Challenger not too long ago. lol

Thanks 'Old Bushy'. Have you had this size on a Pajero before. I would love to see a picture if you have any.
Do you think I would need to lift the suspension to handle these tyres.

Hey Old Bushy

What size rim do you think those tyres would run best on, possibly 10"

Well the Coopers have been on for about 5000km now and seem to be going OK. They are great on wet roads and handle very well on gravel too. I have heard stories about these tyres having chunks of the tread coming off so I am keeping a close eye on them. I've also been told that the 80000km warranty is null and void the minute you take them off the bituman too. Not sure if this is correct or not. Does anyone know ?

Robo, Sorry about the late reply. Have been away. I have those tyres on a 99 NL Pajero on 8 inch Nissan GU rims. They will also fit on a NM and NP

Well we have had the Cooper ST's on for about 20000km now and recently took the Pajero to The Springs 4x4 Park and i must say these tyres are turning out to be bloody great tyres. It was raining most of the time at the 4x4 park and we drove through the muddy conditions without any trouble yet we watched alot of vehicles stuggle. As they say it all comes down to good tyres.
